Philip,
Last week we were at a roping with 150+ teams. There was a 16 second cutoff in the first round which was advertised. We happen to rope a 16 flat which is what was announced, but they said we were too long. To me that means it is a 15.99 cutoff. (To the producer’s credit when I talked to them, he let us rope, but I felt like he was doing us a favor). Just wondering what you think?

Kerry,
The producers did not do you any favor. You had a time coming. The cut-off time was sixteen seconds or less in the first round.
This rule was started because of a time element and with so many teams entered you were less likely to place.
I have seen cut-off times of 14 -17 seconds that I recall from the past. In my eyes this kind of rule is somewhat old school. You don’t see cut-off times very much any more... Hope this answers your question.
Have Fun and Enjoy Roping
