5/25-Windy Ryon

0

The Windy Ryon was a good roping for me this year.  I’ve made the short round a few times there, and I have never won anything.  This year was a little different.  The roping felt kind of long because I felt like I was behind the entire roping. We never really drew a good steer to be fast on.  We kept making good runs though and tried to just stay in it as the day went on.

1arena            I ended up riding my good horse Goose for most of it.  We were clean on two of my first round steers and had a leg on the other one. I went into the second round feeling good about the roping. In the second round, Trey Johnson and I were clean on two, and I missed for my other two partners. I felt like Trey and I were long but we just kept roping. Didn’t make a good run on our third steer. He ran hard and we were 9 on him. Came back on the fourth steer and were 6 plus a leg. We were questioning whether or not we had a chance at even making the short round then.

2tre           We came back 16 call back, and we knew we had to go fast to have a chance at wining the round or placing in the average.  They were paying 4 places in the short round and 6 in the average, I think. We made a great run in the short round. I got a good start and got it on him fast around the neck, and Trey heeled him.  We were 5.6 on him, which tied for the overall fast time of the roping and won the fast time of the short round. We ended up winining 5th in the average as well!  Overall it turned out to be a good roping besides the way it felt like all day. It seemed as if I wasn’t going to have a chance at any money, but we just stuck it out, kept roping, and things fell our way. Definitely a good thing. We won around $4,500 and $750 dollar gift card to M.L. Leddy’s. Now I’m taking the weekend off for Memorial day weekend, and going to get back at it on Tuesday. Hope you all safe and happy Memorial Day!
