6/1 Drew Horner: Uncoiled. Buddy System

0

As I get ready for the summer and look at all the rodeo schedule for the month of July, I am getting more and more excited. July, particularly the first two weeks, is like organized chaos. We enter rodeos that are across the country, literally, that we have to be at within a 24 hour period. Here’s a picture of some notes that Jade Corkill took and sent to me so that I know what we are “planning” on doing over the first two weeks of July. Some of it involves flying and other parts involve extensive driving. The driving is the worst part about it.

This is a rough sketch, but you kind of get the idea. Just know that it involves having at least, two rigs going in separate parts of the country and some flying between rodeos. This time of year, experience is HUGE! It is easy to call PROCOM (the PRCA’s entry office phone line) and enter rodeos, but it is hard to enter correctly. There are so many little tips and tricks when it comes down to it that if you have not done it much, then you will most likely have to turn out at some rodeos. Meaning you could be up in St Paul, Oregon the same night you are supposed to be up at Greeley, Colorado or something like that. I am grateful that Buddy and I get to buddy with Clay Tryan and Jade Corkill. That means we get to follow them and we get up exactly the same as they do at the rodeos. We buddied with Clay Tryan when he was roping with Travis Graves a little bit last year, and that was huge. We are excited to get to do this again, not just because of their experience, but just because those guys are winners. If you want to be good at something, pick someone that is already good at it and mimic them; do what they do even if you don’t understand it. You will eventually learn something and most likely start to get to be as good as them.

I’m excited to be able to be writing these posts and I hope you have been enjoying reading them. Let me know what you think of them by either commenting here or on my fan page at facebook, and you can also follow me on twitter @drewhorner24. https://www.facebook.com/dhorner24?ref=hl.
