7/29 Drew Horner: Uncoiled. Rodeo update

0

This week has been ok for us so far. We won some money at Spanish Fork Utah, about $2,500. Puts us at about 55k for the PRCA Standings. I’m excited about that, but we got to still keep doing our jobs every time we back in the box. Right now, we are sitting in Helena, Montana waiting to rope our steer tonight at the rodeo. Buddy and I didn’t do any good at Cheyenne Wyoming, but our buddy team, the team we are traveling with, Clay Tryan and Jade Corkill, was high team back and won the whole thing. We’re very excited for them. They both have helped me and Buddy out so much this year and I really appreciate it. I like seeing them do well.

We went to Rock Springs, Wyoming on the way to Helena, Montana after we left Cheyenne. I got the barrier over there to be good. We unofficialed that rodeo, so it didn’t hurt us or help us in the standings. It was a good rodeo to get to for the money on the way to Preston and Helena. I missed at Preston, Idaho, so the past few steers I have made mistakes. I am excited about Helena tonight it’s a good rodeo to get back to rolling again. Next week we go to Hill City, Kansas Tuesday morning for a slack, Abilene, Kansas for a slack Wednesday morning, Philipsburg, Kansas Thursday night for a performance, Dodge City, Kansas for the back to back format on Friday afternoon, Dalhart, Texas Saturday morning for a slack, the Spicer Gripp on Sunday Morning, and hopefully back to the Dodge City Kansas Short Round on Sunday night after the Spicer Gripp Jackpot. We got a busy week next week.

The Wrangler Million Dollar Tour is a good deal for the Pro Cowboys. I’ll explain more about it in my next series of blogs over the next couple weeks, but for now I’ll explain a little bit so you can understand what is going on. We are 3rd right now in the Tour Standings, and they give a bonus check through the top 7 places in that. The tour rodeos are over in two weeks, so if we keep doing well, then we will get a bonus check that will add on top of our world standings. Looking forward to that, but we still got to keep roping. It isn’t over yet and we could end up outside the top 7 if we don’t maintain our focus.

The Spicer Gripp next week is a great jackpot. They have been putting it on for some time now, and I really enjoy going to it. Steve Purcella is a big part of that roping, and he understands what it’s like to rodeo out here because he has been through it. He helps that roping and builds it up, all the while making it a great roping for the best guys in the world to show up and compete at! I’m excited to go there and get another jackpot in during the rodeos over the summer.

I’m going to try some new things out with this blog and I would really like some feed back from you, the readers. I’m going to put together a series over the next couple weeks that tie into my personal experience of climbing through the ranks of rodeo. I’m going to explain some details as to what it is like going from amateuring to circuit rodeoing, all the way up to full time pro rodeoing at the highest level, while also putting in some of my own personal experience and how I have done it. So keep up with me here on my blogs at teamroper.com, follow me on Twitter, or go like my fan page on facebook to keep up with me and to know when I post a new blog. Thanks for reading! I hope to hear from you guys and what y’all are thinking about these blogs. If there is anything y’all want to hear specifically or any certain topic you think would be fun to discuss on here, let me know! Until next time! DH
