7/3 Drew Horner: Uncoiled. Rodeo Camaraderie

photo 1One of the big things out here in rodeo is having having good friends around you, like I’ve talked about before. People in rodeo are so friendly and personable. In the rodeo industry and the rodeo world, we all run into situations where we need help and that help is easy to find. That’s the good thing about the western heritage and rodeo. People in this sport have a lot of good characteristics and values.

For example, if you’re traveling around and don’t have your horse, and you have to ride someone else’s horse, typically, there will be someone there with a good horse that will let you borrow theirs. And that’s hard to do, especially right now, because you might have one or two good horses that you’re trying not to wear them out. It may not be good for your horse, but that’s the kind of things that you put wayside for a friend that needs help.

In my case, two of my friends needed a mount in the short round at Reno. Travis Bounds rode my black horse, Slick. Then Jake Barnes rode my sorrel horse, Goose. They both turned good steers on them. Travis’s heeler roped a leg. Jake ended up winning 6th in the average. Buddy, my heeler actually let Jake’s heeler, Body Bayes, ride his heel horse. It was kind of neat seeing another team ride our horses, but then again we still have to take care of our horses. Those guys needed a ride and its fun to help people out like that.

Wishing you all a happy 4th of July. I will let you know how mine goes. DH
