7/8 Drew Horner: Uncoiled

0

The fourth of July didn’t really go so well for us. The beginning of the week was filled with a bunch of 1-headers that we didn’t draw very well or rope very well. The second half of the week was filled with some 2-headers, and the short-round over at Greeley. I missed to win some good money at Greeley. I had to mount out and kind of had a tough situation, but I should have done a better job. I learned from my mistake there. I need to stay buckled down and be aggressive.

I had a chance to win a little bit of money in Prescott, but again didn’t do very well. We drew a runner and I missed the barrier. We were 8.6 on the first, and needed to be about 5.5 to place in the average and place in the second round. I got a good start on an OK steer, I reached at him and missed the right horn. The header and the heeler come out of the same box in Prescott. It was a tougher loop and I missed the right horn. It was kind of weird to come across there, have a good throw and miss the right horn.

The fourth of July week is so chaotic, it’s hard to really enjoy it. We went to 10 rodeos in six days, so I’m excited about going into this next week. We won’t be killing ourselves trying to get to everywhere on time. Some guys thrive on busy weeks like that, but I like to stay in control of schedule and sleep schedule. I’ll let you know how it goes. DH

St Paul Oregon arena. Famous for the trees that surround the inside of the arena about 40 feet from the fence line. A lot of teams have to work around the trees in order to make a clean run. Kind of fun until you turn one to be fast and place and the steer runs into the tree like our second one did.
