It has been a rough summer for me. I really have not roped that well at all! Our year has been good for us, in that we have been staying on top all year and have a good chance now at making the Finals in Vegas, but GOODNESS, I have not roped well over the summer. We had a great winter, an ok spring, and ok summer, only because we have won a little over $30,000 since June, but I’ll explain that even though we have won well, I have not roped well. We have just won at the right spots.

We have won big checks throughout the year that has kept us at the top. We won San Antonio in February that launched to the top in the standings instantly. We placed consistently at the tour rodeos throughout the springtime. One good placing at Red Bluff, California, and a few little checks at the other rodeos in California kept us on the right track.

We started the summer with Reno, where we won around $6,700 to start our summer run in the right direction. We did not really win a whole lot in July considering how many rodeos we went to. About the third week of July, we won Nampa, Idaho, which was about $5,700 for us that kept our summer above water.

To help you grasp what I am saying here, look at it this way: In the winter and springtime, over about 6 months, we went to about 25 rodeos and won a little over $30,000. Now, in the months of July and August, we have been to about 40 rodeos, and have won about the same amount, a little over $30,000. We went to another 15 rodeos and have won about the same amount.

Looking at the basic stats here, you can see that we haven’t won everywhere we have went, we have just won at the right places. I am still excited though about the rest of the year. I am anxious still, though. I don’t like the waiting game that rodeo has.

As I write this, I am sitting at Starbucks about to go practice a little bit before I rope in the second round at Ellensburg, Washington. Anyway, I have to keep myself focused on the rest of the year. We are headed into the fall months of rodeo, and I am excited about it! I am a little nervous, but that’s a good thing. We have about 10 rodeos within a four-week period left for the rest of the season. I want to win some more money just to feel comfortable. The rodeos we have left are good ones, so hopefully we can win another big check and break $70,000 for the year.
