RFD-TV to broadcast BFI

NASHVILLE, Tenn.; June 8, 2015 – RFD-TV, a leading provider of rural and Western lifestyle programming, today announced it will air the 38th Annual Bob Feist Invitational (BFI) from Reno, Nev. The Western Sports Wednesday show scheduled for July 1 at 9 p.m. (Eastern) marks the first-ever television broadcast of one of the world’s richest team roping events.

“Wednesday nights mean Western sports on RFD-TV,” said Randy Bernard, CEO of RFD-TV Events. “No other network has made such a commitment to Western sports. We’re proud to showcase the BFI and give viewers the chance to relive the excitement of one of the world’s top ropings.”

The BFI became the foremost stand-alone event in professional team roping in 1977. Nearly 40 years later, it continues to accept only the top 100 teams in the world and pays out more than $700,000 in cash and prizes over six rounds of action. Together with a lucrative amateur roping event and the adjacent 10-day Reno Rodeo, the BFI on June 22 is part of professional rodeo’s $2 million summer season kick-off.

“Partnering with RFD-TV gives us an opportunity to bring the BFI into households of roping and rodeo fans who may not get the opportunity to be there with us live,” said BFI co-owner Daren Peterson. “It’s a historic milestone for team roping and for all of the BFI’s loyal fans.”

About the BFI:

The forerunner of big-money jackpot roping events was founded by Bob Feist in 1977 in Chowchilla, Calif., with $40,000 added to the entry fees of 40 personally invited teams. Ullman Peterson Events, LLC, bought the BFI in 2012 and still holds just 3 percent of the cash purse – now $500,000 – for administrative costs.
