Rodeo Doesn’t Care Who You Are

0

Rodeo is a very fickle. It doesn’t care who you are, where you come from, or even what you have accomplished. It will tear you apart. In the same way it can tear you apart, it can make you feel on top of the world. The schedule will wear you down, the driving will tire you out, and a couple no times in a row will make you feel as if you have no idea what you are doing. It is a constant battle. A never ending fight that lasts all year long

We started the summer with a bang. We won the BFI. Big win and a great accomplishment. Here’s the truth though. We have only put together 3 clean runs from June 19th to today, July 11th, at the rodeos. We caught 6 in a row at the BFI, but thats one day. We’ve been to plenty of other rodeos since then and we have only won about $2,600. Not good considering this is the biggest time of year for rodeo and there are guys having $10,000 weeks. We need to start putting it together. It’s time for me to be more consistent and give the type of handles I can. I am not going to change much in my game plan with my horses. I am going to turn my focus more towards my mental game. I am going to visualize more of my runs and try to see myself wining more and more. I am going to stick to the basics of roping. I am going to take aggressive starts and ride hard but make sure I see my loop go on the horns and slow down when I turn the steer. No need to rush. We go fast enough horses and Buddy and I’s run is plenty fast enough to win when we draw well. We will get it together. I just need to focus on my job and make sure I do what I can to win. Score aggressive, ride hard, see it go on the horns, give a readable handle, and finish strong. We will win if I can stick to what I know I can do.

We got a ton of chances left. Our schedule is plenty busy and we still have more rodeos to enter over the next couple weeks. Here is a pic of my schedule currently updated with a few rodeos left out because we have not entered them yet.
